Rohnert Park to Santa Margareta

Woke to another foggy morning. Yesterday we ran errends, did chores (fix porch light, add another section of sewer hose and dump the tanks, fix one of the storage door latches, vaccum, etc.) and relaxed with the dogs. Today we set off about 9:30 to miss the rush hour traffic through San Fransisco. The sun came out about 10:00 and we had a glorious day for a drive. Worked well although it was slow in spots.

We did have one really spectacular opportunity to screw up though... after crossing the Golden Gate Bridge you have to pay a toll. Instead of going in the truck lane I went in a car lane. Oooopps. I stopped just in time to pull both mirrors into the side of the rig. We had about a 50 foot drive throught the toll booth with about 2 inches on either side of the rigs mirrors - Wheeeeww, nerve racking. But we made it through all right.

Originally we planned to stay at an RV place in Salinas but couldn't locate it. Rather than fight it we got back on Hwy 101 and continued south. It was still early in the day and with the sun and light traffic we decided to continue on to Santa Margarita which is just 10 miles past Atascadero. We made it to the off ramp and headed east. We got to some road construction, waited our turn to go through, and proceeded to our destination. Unfortunately, we took a left instead of a right after getting through Santa Margareta and ended up driving back to Atascadero. We couldn't believe it. We pulled into a shopping mall parking lot and checked the map, found our mistake, got back on the road and jumped back on Hwy 101 south. Ten miles down the road we took the exit ramp to Santa Margareta, went through the construction zone and turned right to go to the KOA. Eight miles later we pulled into our campsite, set up and had dinner. Tomorrow we hope to do some bike riding down to the lake.

p.s. Fortunately our motto is "Flexibile". We take all these situations as opportunities to experience something new. We don't get frustrated because life is too short and these things happen. And no doubt will happen again, and again, and again... heh, heh! This leg, 264 miles. Trip total is 1,156.
