It's about 70 degrees out and climbing. The sky is blue and we're supposed to have thunder showers. So far the weather has been absolutely marvelous. Tina took her new camera out and played with it for a while before we headed for Houston and the Johnson Space Center.
We arrived around 11:00 AM and bought our tickets to get in. The best way to start our day was with a tram tour of the Astronaut Training Center and Saturn V building. The training facility is a huge operation with simulators, test equipment and a full scale mock-up of the space shuttle. We learned a lot but most of the information is available on the web http://www.nasa.gov/centers/johnson/home/index.html. The building housing the Saturn V is huge also. The rocket is the real item designed and built for the Apollo 18 mission but was never used.
After returning to the Space Center Plaza we grabbed a bite to eat, then it was off to the Briefing Theater for an update of the current shuttle mission to the International Space Station (ISS). Then we were given an orientation on daily living on the ISS. This was followed by a self guided tour of the Starship Gallery and display of moon rocks. There were several other features to be seen but it was time to head home.
On the way home we made one short side trip to the Marina and Boardwalk at Kemah http://www.kemah.net/kbe/ .
This side trip, 28 miles.
After we returned, we took the dogs for a long walk and Tina took more pictures of the birds here at Via Bayou RV Park. Eventually dinner called and we headed in for steaks - yum!!
